MFL Languages Week
29 September 2024
During the week 23rd to 27th September 2024, our MFL Department held their annual Languages Week, that also celebrated the European Day of Languages.
There were a variety of fabulous language themed activities, including the following:
Monday: Language T-Shirts
Our languages teachers wore t-shirts with French or Spanish on them and students were asked to translate the word or phrase.
Tuesday: Teacher Language Challenge
All teachers were asked to compete with each other in speaking different languages and students voted for their winner. Students who speak a different language at home were invited to teach their teachers something in that language.
Wednesday: Interhouse Cup Challenge Treasure Hunt
This was a team event where students had to locate clues around the school. The results were; Farington House in 1st place, Worden House in 2nd place and Clayton House and Cuerden House in joint 3rd place. Well done Farington!
Thursday: Internationally Themed Bake Sale
There was a delicious bake sale competition with an international twist. Our students did an amazing job and there were some fantastic baked creations! These entries also contributed to the MFL Interhouse Cup Challenge!
A huge thank you to everyone who baked or bought on the day and helped to raise an impressive £228.50 that was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Well done to all our fabulous winners:
- Year 7: 1st Nozomi, 2nd Fin and Millie, 3rd Liam, Florence and Cicely
- Year 8: 1st Arisha
- Year 9: 1st Lilly
- Year 10: 1st Lily and Sienna

Friday: Languages Bingo
The week concluded with fun-filled languages bingo. Students were given a languages bingo grid with images of flags and had to locate the corresponding flag worn by staff in school.
Thank you to everyone for making Languages Week 2024 a memorable, fun and enriching experience.
