Charity Work and Fundraising
As a school we do an amazing amount of fundraising and support for both local and national charities. Our students are keen to engage in many fundraising activities to help those less fortunate than themselves. We sell poppies in school on behalf of the Royal British Legion to support those who have given their lives for their country or been injured in action.
In the Autumn term we ask for food donations for hampers to share with the elderly in the community, either directly to the care home or via Age Concern. We also collect gifts for the RockFM Cash for Kids event for disadvantaged families to have a better Christmas. We have non-uniform days in school throughout the year that help to raise money for a number of different charities including Jeans for Genes, Save the Children and during Lenten Charity fortnight students decide which charities they would like to support.
There are numerous cake sales throughout the year and this year donations have been made to Alzheimer's UK and MacMillan Cancer Support among others. Our Lenten Charity fortnight is a hugely successful 10 days of fundraising and this year there were several amazing events in school that helped us to raise money for Cancer Research UK. For our Family Fun Day and Spring Fair monies raised were given to St. Catherine’s Hospice. There was also a sponsored 5k cross-country fun run in school for students and money raised was split between Cancer Research UK and St.Catherine’s Hospice.
Over the last year five years our amazing team of staff, students and their families have helped to raise an amazing £20,000. We are so very grateful to everyone for all of their support as we couldn’t do it without you.
You can see more detailed information below and how your support helps:
CHRISTMAS HAMPERS - DECEMBER 2017
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the Christmas hampers again this year.
Every year we support the elderly in the community by providing the hampers. We work closely with Age Concern to make sure that the hampers are delivered to those in need.
Every box includes a signed Christmas card from the Tutor Group too. The hampers are then delivered to elderly residents in Leyland and the surrounding area just before school finishes for Christmas.
Your kindness really does make a huge difference to the elderly people in our community.

Every year Balshaw’s Church of England High School supports a number of charities during the Lenten Charity fortnight.
Why do we raise money for charity?
We believe that there is something noble and decent about doing something to help others, often less fortunate than ourselves and we want to give something back to our community.
This year our chosen charities are:
- CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young www.c-r-y.org.uk
- Clare House – Women and Children’s refuge for those affected by domestic violence www.progressgroup.org.uk
- Make a Wish Foundation – for children with life limiting or terminal illnesses www.make-a-wish.org.uk
- Teenage Cancer Trust – to help those teenagers affected by cancer www.teenagecancertrust.org
We have a number of events taking place over the Lenten Charity fortnight, including delicious cake sales, our catering team Chartwells have agreed to make ‘House Lenten Charity menus’ as chosen by all four Houses and they will make a donation from each day’s profits, there is also the ever popular non- uniform day.

Inspiration for raising more money!
Could you donate £5 by doing one of the following? - saving up, giving up money that you spend on goodies, do jobs at home or do a sponsored event.
Organise an event with our Tutor Group: Inter-tutor competitions, sponsored events, quizzes.
Do something outside of School – e.g. a sponsored event, a cake sale at Church.
If every Student in School could raise £5 that would mean a wonderful £1250 could be raised for a start off.
Last year we raised a most wonderful total of £3000 and with your help we are hoping to better that!
We raised a most wonderful £400 for Children in Need from our talent show that was held on Tuesday 17th November 2015.
Thank you to everyone took part and who came along and helped us to raise this money for Children in Need.
You can see the certificate and letter below that we received in March 2016:

We raised a most wonderful £460.20 for The NSPCC and here is our certificate from them.
