On Monday 27th January, we were delighted to welcome Holly Ellis to school.
On Tuesday 2nd April, a group of Year 11 Balshaw’s students, accompanied by Mr Melling and Mrs Seedall, visited the Academy for Skills and Knowledge at the BAE Systems site at Samlesbury, Lancashire.
Four students Balshaw's joined students from across South Ribble for the annual Rotary Technology tournament held at the Civic Centre last week.
Well done to our Year 8 students for their models of the Earths structure!
Some of our Year 8 students were chosen by their teachers to attend a gifted and talented day at Runshaw College.

On Wednesday 24th January we hosted a science lecture after school.
Our current Year 7 students have pulled out all the stops for their recent science homework on cells.
Our Year 7 and 8 students learn to save lives thanks to Restart a Heart Day 2017.
On Friday 30th June, the Year 7 and Year 8 Science Club students, went on a trip to London.
On Tuesday 16th May, four of our girls, Izzy, Milena, Teri and Victoria, travelled to Westholme School in Blackburn, with Mrs Holden, to compete in the STEM Challenge Day.
On Saturday 18th March, fifteen of our students and three members of staff made the exciting trip to see the Big Bang Show in Birmingham.
Four girls from Balshaw’s have recently competed in the first ever GCHQ girls’ CyberFirst competition which involved over 8,000 girls and 2,100 teams across the UK.
During the week of the 7th November 2016, Year 9 students took part in the UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge.
On Friday 23rd September a group of Year 11 visited Leyland Trucks as part of National Lorry Week.
On Tuesday 28th June, Mr Mort and Miss Lockhart took twenty-nine students from Year 10 GCSE Computer Science on a trip to visit the UK Headquarters of Microsoft in Reading!
Congratulations to our U13 tennis team who competed at the South Ribble competition.
In June 2016, 10 of our Students went along to Preston College to take part in the Future Engineers Lego Robotics challenge for 2016.
Rhiannon Evans, in Year 9, competed in the Under 15 Lancashire Mounted Games from Friday 1st April until Sunday 3rd April.
On Wednesday 27th April 2016, Mr Mort took ten eager Year 8 students on a trip to TeenTech 2016.
Massive congratulations are in order to our talented STEM group, who won ‘Best Rookie Team’ on Tuesday 23rd February 2016, at the regional finals of the Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge.
Every year our Students submit poster entries to the Leyland and Cuerden Valley Lions competition. Our fabulous entries have been on display at the Leyland Civic Centre during the first week of February. One of our entries was chosen as the District winner for the fifth time over the last ten years.
Sixteen local schools from across Lancashire participated in the BAE Systems 'Make it Challenge' at Ribby Hall Village nr Kirkham.
During the week beginning 30th November Year 7 experienced a range of themed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) lessons.
Trips to Manchester for our Students to learn more about Earth Sciences.
ZooLab made their annual visit to the Year 8 Geographers on December 1st to give them the opportunity to see first hand how creatures have adapted to their environment in the world's tropical rainforests
During the week of the 9th November 2015, Year 9 students took part in the UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge. The Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge (BCTC) introduces computer science to students and is designed to get them excited about computing.
In October our Year 7 Science Club took a trip to Blackpool. They visited the Zoo, the Tower, including the fabulous Tower Ballroom as seen on Strictly, the spooky Dungeons and even built a replica of the Tower in LEGO!
On September 27th a memorial was dedicated to the young men of Farington who gave their lives in the defence of our country during the Great War.
In the summer of 2015 Year 9 students had an out of this world experience when they were involved in Space Week. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (the STEM subjects) led the way by offering a whole range of lessons based on the exploration of space.

Over the past few months senior members of Balshaw’s eco-team, have been conducting research in to Ground Source Heating for our school.
