I was extremely pleased and felt honoured to be give the position of responsibility within School. It also gave me a huge confidence boost and it will help my sporting future.
  2. What are you most looking forward to in your role as sports captain?
I am looking forward to getting other Pupils involved in sports and I am looking forward to organise teams for sports day. I also want to prove myself and help the PE Department in any way I can.
  3. What is your favourite sport and why?
My favourite sport is football. First of all I have played it since I was five and really enjoy it. I also play to a good level and enjoy the challenge of training and matches.
  4. Who is your sporting hero and why?
My sporting hero is Lionel Messi because he has unbelievable skill and he highlights the fact that you don’t need to be tall to have strength in sport. He also has high levels of sportsmanship and is a good role model.

Sports Captain Interviews – Jade Eccleston

  1. How did you feel when you were told you had been appointed as sports captain?
When I was told I had been appointed as Sports Captain I was overwhelmed because since Year 7 I’d always hoped I’d be able to represent the School as Sports Captain and prove that I was worthy of the part. Also, it was something I really wanted to achieve and also being able to make my parents proud and making Balshaw’s proud was even better.
  2. What are you most looking forward to in your role as sports captain?
In my role as Sports Captain I am looking forward to helping out the PE Department in any way I can and making myself available to help out. Also, helping out at events. Also getting to know other people in younger years and gain a bond which will not only help me work better with them but will also mean they are able to get along with me. I am also looking forward to working with this year’s prefect body.
  3. What is your favourite sport and why?
Netball is my favourite sport because I am in the School netball team and I feel I play well in team sports. I also feel that taking part in the School netball team since Year 7 it has helped me get to where I am now in the School team and at LESAN Netball club as I play, train, coach and improve netball regularly during the week and I also captain two teams I play in and I really enjoy the sports and how it is played and also being in the School teams and going to play against other high Schools with Balshaw’s is a great experience.
  4. Who is your sporting hero and why?
My sporting hero is Emma Dovey because she came to Balshaw’s and is also a netball player like me and was able to get to play for England and still plays for them and plays for Northern Thunder and was part of the team when they won the Super League the other month. She also plays GD like me and I’ve always hoped I could play like her and try and get as far as she has.
