Balshaw’s Church of England High School

Marc Nelson – Award Winning Business

Marc Nelson left Balshaw's Church of England High School in 1990 with average grades (2 GCSE B’s, 1 GCSE C). Marc was a bit of an all rounder but was never top of his class. He represented the school football team (once winning the South Ribble Cup) and was made Head of Cuerden in his final year. On leaving school he didn’t really have a clear picture of what job he wanted to do, so attended Runshaw College to study Business and Finance – which offered a combination of lessons.

On completion of the Business and Finance course Marc took up a job as a Computer Programmer at a local software house. This led to a career with computers, but by being a bit of an all rounder has allowed him to become much more than a programmer. He believes that to succeed in a career you need determination, ambition and a willingness to learn from mistakes.

At the age of 30 Marc started his own Motor Racing business with his wife Lisa. This was a massive challenge as neither had any experience of running a race team or business. The Motor Racing business (Double Six Racing) offered a scholarship to promising race drivers and ran them for a year in the Renault Clio Cup which supports the exciting British Touring Car Championship all over the Country. Why did he start Double Six Racing? Because of a love of the sport, but also because of ambition, determination and a will to succeed.

Marc has now returned to the software arena and runs an award-winning software house which is situated on the Lancashire Business Park in Leyland and has offices in Australia and China. NetEDI provides software and services to many companies throughout the world allowing them to trade electronically with other companies.
